Yes. All Nespresso capsules are recyclable. Nespresso company regulations clearly define the requirements for recycling used capsules, which are implemented in Lithuania and other countries.
The customer can order a bag for used capsules free of charge in Nespresso e- shop or boutiques, and return used capsules with another order, handed over to the courier. If it is convenient for the client, the capsules can also be returned by bringing them to the Nespresso boutique in shopping mall Panorama, Vilnius. Please always sort responsibly and put only Nespresso aluminum capsules into the bag, but if there are other aluminum capsules in the bag, they are also sorted. It would be more difficult with plastic capsules, they need to be separated further during the process, so please sort responsibly and do not mix aluminum with plastic.

Questions and answers
Recycling collections do need to be selected when placing your order to allow this request to be processed. Our couriers issue a reference number and packaging label for any collections and need to be aware of any items requiring collection prior to receiving the parcel from us. We would therefore be very grateful if you could keep your collected capsules until you are ready to make your next order.
If this is not possible, please contact our Coffee Specialists on tel. +370 525 05090; +371 688 060 80, +372 688 06 50 and we would arrange used capsules collection for you.
Yes. Nespresso capsules are made from aluminum – the best material to protect the freshness and quality of our Nespresso coffee capsules, which has the additional benefit of being infinitely recyclable. Aluminum can be recycled countless times and successfully revived for a second life - by bike, computer parts, Nespresso coffee machine, Nespresso capsules themselves are made of 80% recycled aluminum. Nespresso has been investing in its dedicated recycling scheme for more than 25 years. We are committed to making it as simple and convenient for our customers to recycle their Nespresso capsules.
Client can return used capsules with another order, handed over to the courier, only important to remember that recycling collections do need to be selected when placing your order.
A separate bag can be ordered for each order of 200 capsules, for example: if you order 400 capsules per order, you can order 2 recycling bags.
If you choose to return the capsules to the courier, one package can be returned at once. If you have collected e.g. two bags with used capsules, in that case bags should be packed in one box or put in one bigger bag so that the courier can take one parcel from you.
Responsibility means recyclability.
Delivering premium coffee, cup after cup, comes with accountability. To you, naturally and also to the world we live in. This is why Nespresso is committed to doing business responsibly, looking for ways to make a difference wherever we can.
Nespresso has a highly responsible sustainability and capsule recycling policy and an advanced recycling system that offers a wide range of options to make it easy and convenient for customers to recycle used capsules.
Our recycled capsules go back into the aluminum value chain, where they are recycled into a range of uses – such as car engines, bicycles, computers, soda cans, or even new capsules. We also re-use the coffee grounds to create nutrient-rich compost or green energy.
We use aluminum because it is the best material to protect the freshness, taste and quality of Nespresso coffee capsules. Aluminum is a naturally-occurring metal and is infinitely recyclable. Thanks to the aluminum, there is no need for additional over-packaging to protect freshness and taste. Recycled aluminum is extremely versatile. An estimated 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still in use today. Aluminum is used in a wide range of products, from food packaging to cars and computers, window frames to bicycles.
1. Through the dedicated scheme, used capsules are sent to our recycling facility. In Baltics we cooperate with food and non-food waste collection and recycling company „Horeca sprendimai”.
2. They are shredded to separate the coffee grounds from the aluminum capsule.
3. The coffee grounds are transformed into green energy or nutrient-rich compost.
4. The empty capsules are heated to melt off the plastic coating and other materials.
5. Once only pure aluminum remains, this is melted and recycled.
Nespresso capsules require a special grade of aluminium. The availability of recycled aluminium in this specific grade is very low. In fact, the best source of the correct grade of aluminium is from recycled Nespresso capsules. We are using recycled Nespresso capsules to make new capsules wherever it is feasible and it makes sense environmentally.
Plastic capsules generally need more packaging such as an additional wrapper to preserve freshness. Ironically, this is often made of aluminum. We believe aluminum is the more sustainable material for our capsules as it reduces the need for extra packaging and protects the freshness and quality of our coffee - and it is infinitely recyclable.
Nespresso Professional capsules can be recycled just like our at-home capsules can be. The collection and recycling of capsules is discussed on a case by case basis with our professional customers and we have set up many personalised services across the countries we work in to make sure they can also recycle.
Today, each A of the AAA Program stands for the three foundations of the Nespresso approach: QUALITY, SUSTAINABILITY and PRODUCTIVITY.
Our AAA Sustainable Quality™ Program takes an integrated fertilisation and pest control approach to sustainable farm management, whereas organic coffee farming focuses mostly on the ecological impacts of coffee cultivation.
We believe that the holistic approach of our AAA Program is the most sustainable way to grow our highest quality coffee, especially for smallholder coffee farmers. Today, we source more than 94 % of our coffee through the AAA Program.
Our partner in the Baltic States is UAB “Horeca sprendimai“. Company has 10 years experience in collecting and recycling waste. This company resolves waste management issues in accordance with legal norms and the highest requirements. The recycling of Nespresso used capsules was a novelty in our market, but the company has found a sustainable and flexible solution for the safe and environmentally friendly separation of coffee and aluminum capsules.
